Record result for Ipswich Greens

Green Successes on Thursday

A massive thank you to everyone who voted for Adria on Thursday – all 3,652 of you! That’s more than double the most votes we’d ever seen in Ipswich, and is a clear sign of the growing concern among Ipswich residents about green issues. This vote sends a powerful message to our new Labour MP that he needs to listen to green concerns.

A similar story was seen across the country. 4 new Green MPs (including co-leader Adrian Ramsay in Suffolk) – and a record 1.8 million votes. To achieve this despite the restrictions of the First Past the Post system is a remarkable success.

All these numbers really matter. More and more people are voting Green. Even where we aren’t elected, the politicians do listen to this, because they want those votes next time. We saw this at the count on Thursday, where the other parties were keen to tell us how much they cared about the environment.

Turning Ipswich Green

We know it can be done. We’ve seen how it works. And we know there is far more support out there, ready to come on board if only we can persuade people we can win. We start by electing a Green Ipswich councillor onto the County Council in May, and then putting a Green on the Borough Council in 2026.
If you’d like to know more about this, and how you can get involved, please get in touch or come along to one of our meetings. But for now, let’s all take a moment to celebrate some actual good news in British politics!
