The main political parties like to tell us that it is not their responsibility that we face environmental catastrophe while they shamelessly cosy up to big business and petrochemical companies, and yet still tell us they are the only choice. Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council cannot work together and are more interested in scoring political points rather than caring about the people they serve.

Ipswich Green Party is the progressive voice for Ipswich people who have hope and know things can be better.

The Green Party is growing strongly across Suffolk and already controls Mid Suffolk District Council.  We doubled our vote in some parts of Ipswich and are growing because we listen, we believe in fairness, sustainability, and the strength of diversity. And we care.

Our vision for Ipswich

Ipswich has some fabulous things going for it right now: cafes, theatres, cinemas, a thriving live music scene, parks, restaurants, local markets and shops, the beautiful waterfront, an industrial, architectural, and historical heritage and a diverse and thriving community.

However, Ipswich suffers from illegally high air pollution and grinding congestion from which Ipswich people die or suffer chronic heart, lung, and brain diseases. Ipswich’s leaders still cling desperately to 20th century ideas of a town centre, holding Ipswich back.

Our Vision is for:

  • Ipswich to become a healthy, people-centred, thriving, and prosperous low pollution town where people feel safe to walk and cycle and our children can flourish. Where the way we live and work brings benefits to health and wellbeing, boosting the local economy, whilst curbing climate change and reducing health inequalities.
  • Ipswich to build on the learning from Covid which showed us the value of community, while technology supports the possibility of a better work/home balance.
  • Ipswich town centre to be a place where you can live without a car, safely and enjoyably, with plenty of green spaces.
  • A town that embraces the vast changes we are seeing on our high/shopping streets and works towards a solution that keeps the town vibrant, including local independent local businesses which create jobs for local people,
  • Lots of in-town housing at costs which can be afforded by local people who wish to work locally or have viable train or bus travel options.
  • The town with all necessary shops and services reached by walking or cycling or by public transport.
  • A place where you can get home cheaply and easily by public transport, without fear of having to catch a taxi because the last bus has gone or never arrived, whether that was after shopping at 5 pm or after an evening out.
  • A town that visitors want to see and experience but recognise that to keep it as its townspeople want it to be, they will have to park their cars and travel into the centre by public transport or hired cycles.
  • A town which welcomes commuters who travel by train, bus, cycle, etc, or low emission cars.

An Ipswich people love to live in, are proud of and want to tell people about.
